Step into the heart of La Villita and meet the largest Catrina and Catrín in the United States, standing an incredible 38.5 feet tall in Maverick Plaza, downtown San Antonio.
Created in collaboration with Chef Johnny and crafted by renowned Mexican artists, these breathtaking figures celebrate the timeless beauty and spirit of Día de Muertos.
Adorned with a lighted butterfly and a vibrant, flower-covered hat, La Catrina radiates elegance and tradition — a living tribute to the iconic figure first popularized in 1913 by José Guadalupe Posada. Together, La Catrina and El Catrín stand as symbols of love, memory, and the joyful reverence with which Mexican culture honors both life and death.
Visit La Villita and experience these monumental works of art — a celebration of culture, craftsmanship, and community that could only happen in San Antonio.

7th Annual Day Of The Dead River Parade
Join us at the San Antonio River Walk for the Day of the Dead River Parade on Friday, October 24, 2025. See elaborately decorated floats with altars, catrinas, and costumed riders, all celebrating life and loved ones. What better place to commemorate this celebration than right here in beautiful San Antonio?
Decorated barges will parade down the river that runs through the heart of our magnificent city along the River Walk. Each barge represents a different figure or tradition associated with the Day of the Dead.
The parade begins at 7 PM from Lexington Avenue, and the first float is expected to travel through Arneson River Theatre at 7:45 PM.

Experience the wonder of the Giant Alebrijes! Starting in mid-October at La Villita Historic Village, this captivating display showcases enormous ‘Spirit Animals’ known as Alebrijes. These brightly colored Mexican fantastical folk art sculptures bring delight, rather than dread, to all who behold them.
Crafted by talented artists from Mexico City, these larger-than-life mythical creatures originated from a vivid dream experienced by Mexican artist Pedro Linares in 1943.
Step into a world of enchantment at the ‘Calavera Collection’ exhibit! 🌺✨ Opening in mid-October at La Villita Historic Arts Village, this ex traordinary display features over 40 giant skulls meticulously adorned by the talented artists of San Antonio.
Immerse yourself in the awe-inspiring beauty of the ‘Calavera Collection.’ Marvel at the rich colors and intricate details that breathe life into each skull. General Information About the Event
Through Day of the Dead San Antonio, the authentic traditions of Mexico’s Día de Muertos come to life, allowing us to share the heritage of honoring our deceased loved ones by celebrating and remembering their lives.
No city in the United States embraces the colorful and cultural Día de Muertos like San Antonio. Activations across our city celebrate diversity, heritage and history, some taking place for more than 40 years, bringing locals and visitors together.
San Antonio host many authentic Day of the Dead celebrations, showcasing, artwork and family traditions. Día de Muertos is a holiday to celebrate with family and friends. We want to celebrate with you!.

To make sure we can accommodate everyone who wants to participate in this event, please observe all traffic officers and No Parking signs. We want to minimize traffic congestion in the area. There are numerous parking lots and garages in the surrounding downtown area. Please consider carpooling, ride-sharing or public transportation if you would like to minimize parking issues.
