POR MIS HUEVOS
The “Alebrijes de Rancho” that I created are an homage to my grandmother, Margarita and my daughter’s grandmother, Susan, who have passed in the last two years. These otherworldly creatures are a mix of different ranch animals capable of much more than meets the eye, much like the women who they are inspired by.
The nopales that grow and extend past the clouds are a symbol of resilience and Mexicanidad which can serve to lift my creatures up. The clouds are inspired by the Gabriel Figueroa movies that constantly played in the background of my summers at my grandmother’s house in Mexico.
